current mood: curious

Pairing/s: Hancock + Ray, mentions of Hancock/Mary
Warnings: None
Rating: PG
A/N: I just watched the movie and here I am a few minutes later writing this XD There's no hope for me.

“Your eyes,” he murmured, leaning forward as he pointed. Leaning too far, and Ray caught the finger before it put his eye out.

“What about my eyes?” he asked, deciding to humor the other man. Deftly, he pushed Hancock onto his back on the bed.

The was a great sigh from that larger body and the immortal dragged himself up by his elbows to rest against the frame. He leaned close again as Ray came around the bed and sat on the edge of the mattress. “Your eyes,” he paused and sucked in a sharp breath, “ahhhh, ahhhh …”

Ray’s eyes widened with realization. “No no no no no no no, wait, wait, wait, wait!” and he jumped forward, knees on the bed, moving over Hancock and slapping his hand down over the man’s nose and mouth.

Hancock looked startled, eyes red-rimmed, and glanced up at Ray questioningly.

After a few moments the younger man relaxed back and sighed in relief. He smiled at his still-confused friend. “The last thing we need is for you to blow a hole in the room with one of your sneezes,” he informed the superhero. And Hancock was a superhero. Ray had never been more convinced. A superhero. A superman.

Hancock looked like he was trying not a laugh for a second before simply snorting. He turned his head and stared at Ray, looking into his eyes as though it was something he could do all night.

“What about my eyes?” he repeated.

“Huh?”

“You were going to say something? About my eyes?”

“Oh. You both kinda have the same eyes,” Hancock muttered, looking away.

No need to ask who. “Really?” he asked, mostly to keep the other man talking, distracted. He glanced surreptitiously into the bottle Hancock still held, trying to gauge how much he’d drunk. Not much really, he knew that. Not anywhere near what he used to, but John still got lonely every once in awhile, when the phone calls alone weren’t enough, and then Ray would come and they’d talk. Hang out. Have a beer. Watch a movie or a game. They were friends, after all.

“Yeah. You never noticed?” Hancock asked.

“I guess not. I don’t look at my own eyes much.”

Ray stood and pulled Hancock’s shoes off. He remembered that Hancock had done the same for him. “Other foot,” he murmured and John obediently lifted it. “Roll over.”

“Nuh uh, that’s all you’re getting off me,” Hancock said, waving his index back and forth in the air. Ray laughed. He remembered that line too.

“Come on, so I can tuck you in.”

Finally after much maneuvering, John was under the covers and the bottle was safely on the nightstand. It was time for him to go.

“You know,” he heard Hancock murmur, just as he flicked off the lights. He turned to face the dark room, waiting. “It was her eyes I fell in love in with.”

Ray didn’t move, tried to remember to breathe and finally swallowed hard. He wished he knew what to say.

“You have eyes like that,” came the muffled words. He could hear Hancock shifting. “’Night, Ray.”

“Hancock,” he blurted out, before he lost his nerve.

“Hmm?”the other man already sounded asleep.

“She and I,” he managed past the tight throat, clenching his fingers on his briefcase, “we like the same things.”

There was a very loud silence before Ray took a quick breath and turned away. “Goodnight, John,” he whispered and closed the door behind him.

I forgot that this came out on DVD today! I really liked your story, it was very sweet and I think that it worked with the characters. Hancock is actually a very sweet and you can tell he cares a lot about Ray. And Ray is just so adorable! How can someone not like him.

heroes

Mmm... Nice but painful.

My husband ran out and bought the BluRay the minute it hit the shelves. He watched it twice last night, but I haven't had time to watch it yet. I was really hoping it would spur some new fic, so I am thrilled to see your post and hope there will be more to come.
